My most important childhood dream was becoming an author. Almost 40 years (yes, a lot of years) later, I'm finally stepping out of my comfort-zone and putting myself out there into the unlimited possibilities of the world wide web.

Hi, I'm Audrey

Are you in need of some good news in this uncertain and frightening time? Here we are, I will share with you five positive things that happened in the corona crisis.

1. Environment

“Its a silver-lining for the environment”

Did you see the satellite pictures, who were made after the lockdown in China? Air pollution fell around 40% after the restriction were taking place. Especially the levels of Nitrogen dioxide saw a immense decrease because the plants were closed in China, but also in Italy. Nitrogen dioxide forms from emissions to cars, trucks and power plants. No2 pollution is one of the greater concerns when it comes to our environment.

Not to forget the light pollution. Everybody was staying home and the Fabriken were closed, the traffic and transportation was a lot less – so the nights were darker again, with more natural lights and less light pollution. Did you know how bad light pollution is for all of us, for humans and animals? Here you can check the light pollution in your area where you live. I live in Europe and here 99% of the public can’t experience a natural light.

2. What’s really important to us

This crisis showed me and all of us, what’s really important. Our social life, to see our family, parents, grand parents and friends, was restricted and on pause. Normally I see my Mom every week, but at the moment that’s not possible. I really, really miss my family and I’m so happy to see them again – and to hug them. I’m not a hugger, not a person who’s easy with body contact. But I have to say, I miss it. I miss to hug my Mom – it feels still like a safe heaven and I guess, this feeling will always be the same.

“I learned in this crisis, to make some time for the things, who are really important.”

So it showed us, what’s important in our life. And maybe what needs some improvement. Fun fact: I never send my family so many pictures and videos of Lily, our daughter. She did her first steps these last days and yes, I was sad that my Mom couldn’t be here and see it – but at least, she could see it over Facetime and videos. And I’m normally always late in uploading pictures and videos to Dropbox (this is the easiest to share with all our family members), I found it hard to make time for it. But last week, I sat down and uploaded over 100 pictures from this year. Especially the family of my partner who lives in California were all over the moon happy. It felt so good to see them on Sunday via Skype, they’re safe at home and waiting for this to pass. Of course, they were so thankful for these photos. And we all need definitely distraction in these worrying times and some cute baby pictures to look at. It brightens the day so much!

3. We eat healthier

Drop me a line with your favorite recipe.”

The people here in Switzerland are buying more fresh veggies and fruits. Somewhere I was reading its up by 30%. What are the reasons for this trend? We’re cooking at home, we want to improve our immun system and want to be healthier overall.

Everybody is cooking now on Social Media and shares their recipes. We can’t to restaurants, we’re not eating out – so we have to improve our cooking game. Thumps up for this? By the way: Share your favorite recipe here, drop me a line and I will put all the recommendations together in one of my next blog articles.

4. We are going more outside

Yes, this comes maybe as a surprise. But I have to say, I never saw so many people outside, walking, jogging, on bikes or on roller skates. We have here in Switzerland only a shutdown. This means we can go out, we’re allowed to – mainly to buy groceries, to help people in need or going to the pharmacy. But of course, we can go out and enjoy some fresh air. My parents are walking more than they did before the crisis. They walk in the early mornings to avoid people but they’re very much enjoying the walking and the freedom of nature. And it’s easier for them to find time, because they don’t have a busy timeline these days. I see the same here, when I’m out with our dog. The people are walking more, are more outside in nature and enjoying it.

“We’re enjoying the nature more in this time”

My family is in nature a lot, we have a dog and we love to make long hikes through the whole year. We had to adjust a little bit in this crisis, we go now out with the dog in the early morning at 5, around lunch time and later in the evening. At the moment, they’re so many people around, in our neighbourhood, even in nearby forests. So we’re trying to go out when we know, we will meet less people and the walks will be stress free.

Yes, there is a downside to this positive point – the weather here in Switzerland is very nice and the people are having enough from the Corona crisis. These last days, people forget about social distancing again, they’re meeting friends and their parents and celebrate Easter together. This crisis is not over – please stay home. We are all in this together and we have to protect the most vulnerable. It’s not about you – its about us, about respect, loyalty and society. Stay home and save lives.

5. We buy more conscious

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t been pressing the “buy-button” on a website so often lately and I’ve been thinking more often about whether I really need the products. Not only do I plan our purchases more consciously, but I keep expanding the list with the products we need. I also plan our dinners to know exactly what we really need. We also avoid unnecessary trips to the supermarket at the moment and I only go there alone without my little daughter or my husband, so I can run through the aisles faster. It is important to us to spend as little time as possible in the shops. On the one hand to reduce the risk of infection of course, but also to enable other people to do their shopping quickly. Here the number of customers per sqm2 is limited, so if you are unlucky you have to wait outside until there is enough capacity again.

“This crisis let me think about fast fashion, living more sustainable and to become much better in these things. We only have one world.”

And also when it comes to clothes, shoes or other things. Here, too, I have become more conscious, think about exactly what we need and most of the time I allow myself a few days to think about it. I would like to avoid so simply mispurchases and then resulting returns. Our post office, our parcel service and logistics companies are already on the attack. I do not want to contribute to this unnecessarily.

Let me know about the things who were positive for you.

With love,

Audrey
