I want to share more about building a capsule closet, what it is, why it’s a sustainable approach and why it’s so much easier to create different looks with the items you own. A capsule wardrobe are items who are classic, timeless and mostly in one colour scheme. For most of the people these colours are the more neutral colours, but I would say there shouldn’t be strict rules to a capsule because we’re all different and so when you have more colourful clothes in your closet – go for it. Of course, when it comes down to combine the different items together, its much easier when you have neutral shades – because they all go perfect together.
I was thinking to write a weekly blog post about one item who’s essential to my closet and give you some ideas and inspiration. Are all of these items I will write about here sustainable made? Probably not – but I have items in my wardrobe who I bought before I was thinking about the impact on the people and the planet when I ordered fast fashion and all these trend pieces you can only wear for one month. And despite the fact that I would love to buy all of my newer items from sustainable and ethical brands, sometimes I’m searching so so long for one item and can’t seem to find the exact one. Then I often buy items preloved – yes this is a sustainable way – but no these brands I buy then are not always the one I would normally go in and buy something because they’re not sustainable made. There’s a huge dilemma in my head about to buy fast fashion brands secondhand – in my thinking, it only encourages people even more to buy into trends and fast fashion when they can resell their clothes fast and easy. With this in mind, you could justify your purchase and buy more and more – because in the end of the day, you can upload them on Vinted or other platforms and they will get bought. But I will write in another blog post more about this.
The classic white shirt / blouse
The start in these series makes a classic white silk shirt. It’s a great staple, it’s easy to style it differently from chic to workwear to casual. A silk shirt gives you immediately this subtle touch of luxury. The silk fabric is often called “the queen of all fabrics” and you never want it off your skin again because the touch and feel is so soft and gentle. It’s like the touch of a feather or the skin of a baby.
This blouse I will show you here is by LILYSILK and it’s made from Mulberry silk, it’s the most luxurious and exclusive natural silk. With the delicate sheen and the soft touch is clear why its called “the queen of all fabrics”. The silkworm caterpillars feed almost exclusively on the leaves from the mulberry tree, which gives the silk its name. The mulberry silk they’re using is finest grade 6A mulberry silk and is certified by the Swiss Authoritative OEKO-TEX standard. The blouse also contains 10% Spandex, so the material is stretchy and elastic.

The company LILYSILK was founded in 2011 and is committed to redefining the silk industry. The company believes that zero waste can make a difference – and yes, this is so right! Their items come in a beautiful cardboard box with no plastic bag. They using mulberry silk because the mulberry trees require less water than cotton to grow and they’re free from pesticides. Their items are almost only made with natural fibres and are degradable. On their website, you can read that their products need from 1 to 5 years to decompose – which is 50x faster than synthetic materials. And they actually encourage clients to buy smarter and invest in better pieces who can styled many different ways.
Create your capsule closet with one item a time
This white silk blouse is the perfect example for that. In the coming weeks, I will show you more ways to style it over on my Instagram and my LTK-shop. I’m pretty sure I will pack this blouse also for our vacation in California because it feels so great to wear and it looks so expensive. And every woman deserves some luxury, right?
You can wear this blouse perfectly for going to work – silk is actually moisture wicking and temperature-regulating, so it’s a much better solution than these polyester blouses who’re looking cheap and it makes you sweat even more (think about all these meetings or important calls when you were nervous and you always had the feeling you smell your own sweat. The blouse is great for every season, it’s a great piece to layer it under a cashmere, wool or cotton sweater. In Summer, the fabric is comfortable to wear and the white, crisp look is just perfect for a subtle tan.
Wear it with jeans, with your favourite white sneakers, for travel wear it with a wide leg cashmere wool pants oder comfortable joggers, layer it with a sweater or a knitted vest, wear it with a skirt, shorts in Summer, under a blazer, and you get the idea: you can basically wear it with almost everything. This is such a great staple for your capsule closet. It’s a timeless, classic blouse who never goes out of style – and believe me, it’s freeing to not jump anymore on the trends-bus and no let this feeling of “missing out” letting go. It gives me a peace of mind and I can invest in better items who’re lasting and I can wear for many years round. I changed dramatically over the last two years, then I wanted to have always the latest trends and I got rid off all my clothes after I was wearing them for only 1,2 times. Now I’m so annoyed by pieces where the quality isn’t good enough to stay the time and are badly made.
