What’s the first thing I’m thinking of when Winter approaches? My coats in my closet. I want to stay warm and cozy here in Switzerland while looking chic and put together. And which item is timeless, classic, warm and you look immediately good – even while you’re still in your joggers? Yes, exactly. The famous camel coat. You don’t have to buy one every year because when you take care of them and when you invest a little more in quality, then this coat will be your best friend in many winters to come.
Is it already too late to buy one now in January? Definitely not. These high quality coats never go out of style, and can be worn for years to come.
I collected the best camel coats over the last months and here are my favourite finds. One of them is a great vegan coat and some of these pieces are from sustainable brands.
With love,
Audrey
Starting with this dream coat from the brand THE CURATED. I started to follow this brand a while ago and admired their perfect coats for a longer time. Last week was finally the moment when I was able to get my hands on a preloved coat, one which was never worn and in perfect condition.
It has a timeless design, a slightly wider collar and two front open pockets (as a Mom I’m always happy to have pockets which I can easily put things in with one hand while the other hand is holding my toddler). The coat has a perfect length for me, slightly longer and covers my knees. I got the XS, so the body length is 106cm (measurements are on their website) and for reference, my height is 160cm or 5’3.
This classic coat can be worn open or closed with the matching belt. In Winter I’m happy when I can close my coats with a belt to stay warmer. However, when Spring approaches I mostly wear them open and I love it even more because it gives me an effortless chic look. You know, when you can throw on a coat and it transform your whole outfit and you’re all set in seconds – love, love, love.
The material is a blend from 30% cashmere with 70% merino wool. When I first laid my hands on this coat, I was amazed how soft the fabric is. The brand only uses natural fibres – no polyester – and lists on their website their materials and certifications. They produce their garments in with a small family business in China. They also list their suppliers and their manufactures on their website, which is very transparent.
All of their pieces are high quality items, in beautiful neutral colours which can be worn for many years with their classic and chic look. With items like these, you can build a curated wardrobe, a capsule closet and you will never struggle again what to wear in the morning.
A full review about sizing, fit, quality and more useful information is soon coming to this blog.
Another camel coat I absolutely love. It comes in a double breasted design, the longer length makes it extra chic and the style is very classic. This coat is another example to invest in timeless, quality pieces for your wardrobe. This coat will never go out of style and with proper care can be worn for 10, 20 or more years.
Think about a black Chanel bag, a beige trench coat and or a basket bag for Summer. Pieces like these you can wear and wear and wear, they’re always trendy because they’re classics. You don’t have to hunt anymore for trends which are lasting only a few weeks and that you will wear only a few times – or not at all. I always felt bad when I found clothes in my closet with tags still attached. Never worn, never had the “right” opportunity. Now I feel so good to restyle and rewear my clothes.
Back to the coat, it’s made In Bulgaria from 75% non-mulesed virgin wool and 25% polyamide. The clothes from Ivy & Oak are designed for longevity and and made to last.
Another great coat of Ivy & Oak that I absolutely love. The style is similar to THE CURATED classic coat but with double breasted buttons in front. But it has also the bigger front pockets which I find so practical and a matching belt to wear it differently and change the style up a bit. The length is longer and gets over the knee. I prefer longer coats, even as a member of the petite team. I always find longer coats so chic and elegant, so when there not too oversized then they can look spectacular.
This coat is made with 100% non-mulesed virgin wool. I like this one a little better than the Celina coat because the item isn’t a blended material. It has a loose fit and it’s perfect for layering.
I found this coat a few days ago and I’m in love. It’s not a camel coat per se because the color is called dark khaki, but I really appreciate the full length and the sleek design. This one has a stand collar, matching belt and dropped shoulder – a detail which I admire. It has a relaxed fit so Filippa K recommends to size down for a smaller fit.
The Alexa coat is easily to style because it goes with almost everything. Wear it with jeans, joggers, white sneakers and black pumps – you will see that this coat transforms your outfit.
The material is 90% mulesing free merino wool and 10% cashmere. On their website you can read from where and by whom the coats are made. Filippa K is fully traceable and transparent.
I have two blazers and a two pants from the brand and I strongly recommend them. When you’re searching for workwear – this brand is your new go-to. I found most of these clothes preloved and styled them on my Instagram account here. I’m currently waiting on a pair of pants from them and when they arrive, I will share my review about all of the items that I own.
What is really great about this brand is they have a core collection that makes it easy to build a foundation for your closet with timeless pieces of high quality that will last a long time. And honestly, as a fashion blogger I do love when I can show pieces that I’ve had for years and I can link them because they’re still available.
FRANCIS STORIES MARCELA CASHMERE COAT
Another beautiful coat with a sleek design. It comes with a high-collar stand up collar, two hidden front pockets and is knee length. This one comes also in a more relaxed fit, which makes it easy to layer and wear thicker sweaters under it.
The Marcela Coat is made in Portugal with Yarn (100% Cashmere) from Italy. Their using wool from the Sustaina Wool Integrity Program, their items are locally made and they’re using biodegradable, natural fibres. I discovered this brand a few weeks ago on the slow & ethical marketplace Urbankissed and love all of their pieces and aesthetics.
Another great camel coat is this one from the Swiss fair fashion brand Lamarel. It comes in a full length, has a classic collar and flap pockets. There is a matching belt that can be worn with or without it.
The item is designed in Switzerland and made in Portugal. The material is 75% wool and 25% polyamide, lined with 100% sustainable viscose.
I adore on this coat the details on the sleeves and that you can adjust them. Sometimes when a coat is oversized, the sleeves are slightly too long and wide for me as petite – so I really appreciate this little detail.
MATT & NAT EVIE WOMEN’S VEGAN WOOL COAT
This camel coat is from the vegan brand Matt & Nat. The style is similar to the one from The Curated and I like this one very much. It has a notched lapel collar, a matching belt and large front patch pockets. The coat is mostly made out of polyester, 5% viscose and 2% spandex. The lining material is 100% recycled polyester. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of virgin polyester – but this coat would be a great vegan option. The brand doesn’t use any leather and they’re using a lot of recycled materials as plastic bottles. In 2023 they want to become fully sustainable – thumbs up!
